The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling: Book Review

As a child, me and my siblings were always fascinated by the The Jungle Book stories aired then on Sahara TV under a section called Just Kids!

Mowgli the man cub, Bagheera the panther, Baloo the bear always in fight with Sher Khan, the man eater was fun to watch. Entire jungle taking Mowgli’s side to end the life of the evil tiger, that Sher Khan was.

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling is an all time famous book set out in the forests of India.

From the movies and TV series made on Jungle book, I always presumed the book would be all about Mowgli, Bagheera, Sher Khan and his friends, but guess what, out of the 7 short stories, only 3 were those of Mowgli’s.

Quite disappointing to me as a fan of Jungle book, especially when the other 4 stories were not very appealing.

I have also read ‘Just so Stories’ by the same author, and I felt that to be a better book than this.

The jungle book still stands to be a masterpiece by Rudyard Kipling, it’s been more than a century since it’s first publication but people are still very crazy about Mowgli’s stories, I am sure you know Netflix has recently come up with another series on the book.

Him being an English and yet his writings being mostly set in India, similar to that of Jim Corbett’s draws a lot of positive attention.

No doubt Rudyard Kipling will always stay close to our hearts for his literary work for children!

I rated it a 3/5 on Goodreads.
